Mares - Ruins
MARES is an artist residency based at the Monumental Complex of Santa Croce in Bosco Marengo, in the province of Alessandria, conceived as a site for research and engagement with its historical and social stratifications. Ruins, the first edition of the residency, addresses the notion of ruin as an operative condition, bringing architecture, memory, and landscape into dialogue. As the photographer of the catalogue and the author of the visual essay Cassine, developed together with Lemonot and included in the volume, I have constructed a continuous reading between Santa Croce and the rural farmsteads of the surrounding area, considered as parts of a shared spatial and cultural system. The essay extends the scope of the residency toward the rural context, running alongside the exhibition project and offering an additional perspective on the territorial dynamics at play. The images accompany the project as a whole, with close attention to material traces and ongoing transformations.
MARES is a cultural association founded by curators Tatiana Palenzona and Amina Berdin, together with entrepreneur Michelangelo Buzzi. Ruins featured the participation of four artists, Jade Blackstock, Giovanni Chiamenti, Luca Pagin, and Teresa Prati, whose works inhabited the spaces of the monumental complex. The catalogue is published by Allemandi.
