Santa Croce
The Santa Croce monumental complex in Bosco Marengo, Piedmont, was founded in 1566 by Pope Pius V. Originally a Dominican convent, with works by Giorgio Vasari, it underwent several transformations over the centuries, including a period as a juvenile detention centre. Its architecture still bears traces of these successive uses.I made these photographs for the catalogues of MARES’s first two editions, Ruins (2025) and Tales (2026), published by Allemandi. Founded by Tatiana Palenzona and Amina Berdin, MARES is an independent curatorial initiative whose artist residency programme brings contemporary artistic practice into dialogue with the history of the complex and the surrounding territory.
